The Changing of the Sun: Scorpio

The sanskrit word sankranti means "transfer, passage, or entry," in this case specifically referring to the movement of the Sun from one zodiac sign into the next. 

The movement of the Sun is the original source for our 12-month calendar. The day the Sun changes signs is the classic astronomical and astrological definition of the beginning of a new month.

Traditionally, one can interpet the position of the planets on the day of sankranti to make socio-political predictions for the coming month.
